Pommeau de Normandie

Apple Varieties : The “Cétine” orchards are the Domaine de la Duretiére’s real riches. These are planted with bitter varieties such as “Tardive de la Sarthe”, “Bedan” and “Damelots”, that are picked in the months of November and December.

Soil : The Domaine de la Duretiére’s apple orchards are planted on granite soil covered with a clay loam that yields
sweet, very aromatic fruit.

District : Melleray la Vallée 53110 Lassay les Châteaux

Production : The apples are hand picked, washed, crushed and pressed on the Domain. The must is fortified with 2 to 3 year old Appellation Contrôlée Calvados to obtain a Normandy “Pommeau” of 16 % vol.

The Art of ageing : Our Normandy Pommeau is aged in Normandy 600 litres oak barrels for 24 months.

Colour : Mahogany, amber shade

Nose : Powerful and fine with shades of candied fruit (almond and hazelnut)

Palate : Supple and sweet with caramelised apple aromas

Serving : 8 to 10 °C

Accompaniments : Best enjoyed with foie gras and in the centre of a holed out melon, ideal accompaniment with apple desserts such as caramelised apple tart flambed with Calvados.
